WHAT IS MYOFASCIAL RELEASE?
Myofascial release is a manual therapy technique designed to relieve pain and improve mobility by focusing on the fascia.
Fascia, the connective tissue surrounding your muscles, creates a 3D web extending from head to toe. It's function is to support, protect and separate every vessel, organ, bone and muscle of the body. Fascia creates space through which nerves, blood vessels and fluids pass. Through trauma, inflammation and poor posture it can become solidified and shortened. The purpose of Myofascial Release is to release the restrictions within the deeper layers of the fascia. The effect creates longer lasting changes than just stretching or massage. Practitioners use their hands and observe movement to identify areas of fascial tension. Then, using manual contact and maintaining pressure the position is held until the tissue relaxes to release tightness and restrictions that may limit movement or cause discomfort.
Benefits include:
Improved mobility and posture
Reduced pain and stiffness
Enhanced recovery
